Ontario-based which makes an EHR platform and other software solutions to advance senior care, has debuted a skin and wound smartphone app to track and document healing. The app integrates with the PointClickCare EHR and is designed to be part of a complete long-term, post-acute care continuum solution.
Since wound care is a big point of accountability for providers (and is a frequent source of claims against them), the goal of the PointClickCare app is to put tools in the hands of the care team to manage risk. The app is powered by Swift Medical, and automates best practices in documenting wounds – members of the care team take photos of the affected area which are automatically measured, and the information is stored in the EHR.
“We understand that our customers, the leading LTPAC providers in North America, must use technology as a key part of their care services, resident and family engagement and business operations,” Dave Wessinger, PointClickCare’s chief technology officer, said in a statement. “We are pleased to fill this demand with solutions like the skin and wound smartphone app to help them generate better clinical outcomes and manage risk with more transparency and access to critical data.”
One of PointClickCare’s clients, River North of Bradley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Illinois, said the app allows the team to develop consistency in their wound assessment and documentation.
“This consistency, with the ability to track and communicate risk status, is a significant part of our risk mitigation strategy,” Amy Cassata, quality improvement consultant for that organization said in a statement. “Since we’ve started to use the PointClickCare skin and wound smartphone app, our team can identify the exact current status of a wound’s healing process more quickly, conduct analytics and provide outcomes data for the EHR.”
